Spelling is an important skill, but too often we teach kids to spell words by memory and forget two key facts:
1.) If you don’t know what a word means, it doesn’t matter if you know how to spell it.
2.) Words are spelled using spelling patterns, which students should be able to apply to new, unfamiliar words.
In order for students to actually utilize the spelling of all the words we ask them to, they need to:
1.) understand the meanings of the words
2.) look closely at the words for patterns and sort similar words
3.) find new words that follow the same pattern
4.) edit those words when they are misspelled
This spelling and word work packet gives you everything you need for your students to do exactly that. It focuses exclusively on L Ending words, but gives you four different levels of increasing difficulty so that you can meet the needs of all of your students.
