Eid Mubarak! Muslim Holiday Center Packet

Today is Eid al Adha, also known as Eid Kabir (literally big holiday in Arabic). For millions who practice the Muslim faith, this is the biggest holiday of their calendar, celebrating the day that God asked Abraham to sacrifice his son, and then gave him a sheep instead of allowing him to sacrifice his son. In Morocco, where I lived for 3 years, each family who is able to sacrifices a sheep on this day and shares the meat with family, friends, and those less fortunate. Teaching students about the holidays of others is one way to teach acceptance and understanding of others. You may have students in your class who celebrate Eid al Adha, and teaching about this holiday would be a great way to make them feel included.

When I taught in Morocco, I created a center packet for my 1st and 2nd graders about the three largest Muslim holidays, Ramadan, Eid al F’tour and Eid al Adha. You can download this Muslim Holiday Center Packet for free from my Teachers Pay Teachers store.
