Teaching math skills in isolation does not help students when they hit real life math problems. Math problems rarely use just one math skill. This is why I like teaching math through projects that utilize multiple math skills all at once. This Holiday Recipe Math Project incorporates elapsed time, rounding, addition and budgeting into one math project which will engage students no matter what holiday they celebrate.
