Writing poetry is one of the most challenging genres for kids because it asks them to either learn a different set of rules or throw the rules out altogether. I've found that with poetry, the students who are normally all star writers often flounder because they feel like they've lost their "known structure" or paragraph writing. So I creating this Poetry Writing Prompt to give them back a little of their structure while helping guide them to be a little more creative. This prompt includes a brainstorming map, a drafting page, a revising and editing checklist and a grading rubric. Download it for free today from my Teachers Pay Teachers store.
