Noting Taking for Nonfiction Writing

All Freebies

Hi everyone! This is Lynda from Curls and a Smile!
We have been taking a close look at nonfiction text and all the wonderful ways to take information from what we read to build our understanding of the world around us. The students are in L.O.V.E. with reading these exciting and interesting text and as we know good readers build strong writers! So, here is a great way to gather information as they  read and develop their brainstorming and note taking techniques and prepare to write about some of their favorite topics!!
The students condcuted their own research using a variety of nonfiction texts that go along with what they read in their reading series and science textbooks. Then, they took notes using our ninfty note taking form!

Once they collected their factual information, the kiddos wrote about what they discovered and created a 5 page book about a variety of topics. They love to make these books! Check out my post at
to find out more about how I use these books in my writing instruction and grab an additional freebie!!
