Hi, Teaching Friends!
Mastery of basic sight words is crucial to success in early reading. When taught along with other early reading strategies like one-to-one match, directionality, letter-sound knowledge, and use of pictures to support meaning, firm knowledge of sight words allows beginning readers to actually experience their first reading success on sentences and extended text.
Here’s a simple fall game to help your little guys master some of those earliest words. It will work well in your literacy centers, but might also be fun to send home for extra practice!
Happy Teaching!
