A Dichotomous Classification Key to Holiday Giving and Community Service

Due to a lack of teaching time, holiday activities are pretty rare in my high school biology classes.  However, this is one activity that I look forward to each year.  Students are given an assortment of candies and toiletries and must classify them using a “highly scientific” (haha) dichotomous classification key.  As the activity proceeds, the candies are placed in small stockings and the toiletries in small ziplock bags and all are donated to our local food bank.  I think that it is important to remind our students of the importance of community service.

Enjoy!
