One of my favorite back to school books is If You Take A Mouse To School. My Y5’s really enjoy this story by Laura Numeroff.
With that in mind, I designed a few fun, first week of school activities, with templates for preschool, kindergarten, first grade, and second grade, plus blank templates for you to fill in with whatever you teach.
The packet includes a class-made book. Choose the appropriate student page and run it off.
Children complete the writing prompt: If you take a child to ‘kindergarten’ they will . . .
They also color the mouse and illustrate their page.
If you do Daily 5 this is a nice option for the writing portion.
Be sure to do one to demonstrate what you want your students to do. I’ve included a completed sample that you can share as well, or hang up as a sweet poster.
Collect, collate, add a cover and you’re done! Read the book as a whole-group activity, with each student sharing their page when you come to it.
I’ve also included bookmarks for your kiddos to color after they’ve completed their page. They write their name in the blank. Older students can write why they had a great first day on the back.
