Science Lab: Using a Graph to Find the Area of an Irregular Object

I love this lab, and use it every year near the beginning of the school year.  It is a great exercise in the scientific method, and reviews the use of basic pieces of lab equipment, and graphing.

Students wil determine the area and mass of four pieces of poster board that have a regular shape.  This information is plotted on a graph.  By determining the mass of an irregular shaped piece, students can use their graph to determine the area of the irregular piece.
