Groundhog Day, is the first theme day that I celebrate in February. If you do too, I think you’ll enjoy these Groundhog Slappin’ Games.
Using a flyswatter( I buy them at The Dollar store) students show their knowledge, by slapping a variety of groundhog
cards, reviewing specific standards. This is a super-fun, quick and easy way to whole-group assess as well.
Students practice recognizing skip counted numbers, shapes, colors, groundhog-related words, (there are 54!) + upper and lowercase letters.
The packet includes a list of tips, ideas and games for how to use the cards, including the exciting “Kaboom!” game. There are blank masters for each kind of card, plus cover cards, so that students can make Itty Bitty Books.
I’ve also included a cover for a Groundhog Day Word book that would be wonderful for your Daily 5 word work activities, plus a certificate of praise to build self-esteem.
