PQA: Putting the Question in the Answer

All Freebies

As a third grade teacher, I start the year with instilling in my students that they MUST write in complete sentences.  We also work on restating the question in the answer to strengthen those sentences.  In my state third grade is the first year that students take the super important state test, and this strategy is crucial for success.  By this point in the year, my kids are getting pretty good with this skill.  They groan and complain after they ask “Do we have to write this in PQA?” And my response is “ALWAYS!” or “Of course!”.  But, they can do it, and that’s the important part.

I teach my students the PQA strategy.  They need to Put the Question in the Answer.  This is one of the more simple acronyms for the same strategy.  We talk about this within the first week of school and practice, practice, practice.

If you’d like to have this PQA poster, or grab posters for other, similar strategies, just click the picture above to come on over to my blog and download them for yourself.
