Pre-Writing Skills: Hand Division for Preschoolers

All Freebies· PK-2

Getting ready to hold a pencil effectively isn’t automatic, but there are certain activities that are really great preparation!

Hand division means the ability to use the thumb, pointer and middle fingers to hold an object while curling the ring and pinkie fingers into the palm to keep them out of the way.

With these free hand division mats from Liz’s Early Learning Spot your little ones will play with objects such as buttons or beans, and focus on placing them within the circles. It’s a really effective way to practice holding and moving a pencil… without holding a pencil.

I wish you happy teaching and learning!
