Extracting DNA from cells is so simple that anyone can do it. It can be done in the lab or at home. It is appropriate for students of any age who are learning about DNA. It is a great demonstration for the elementary-aged scientists.

Using very simple materials, the DNA can be extracted from a variety of cell types, including strawberries, bananas, or wheat germ. I prefer the wheat germ since a small bag has a long shelf life and will last for years in my lab.
