Try this fun activity with your students to encourage reading and writing. Students use resources such as author websites, author interviews, or the author’s note at the end of a favorite book to discover how an author was inspired to write his/her book.
The activity is a literary scavenger hunt. When students learn the story behind the inspiration for a book, it not only helps the student build a stronger connection with the story, but it also encourages students to analyze the events around them to help find ideas for their own writing.

This activity would also work well at the beginning of the school year if the students had any required summer reading books.
