“Mrs. Raki, I’m done!” are my least favorite words in the English language. So one way that I prevent this is by always having a back up activity (or two or three) that my students can work on when they are done. Often these activities are open ended or will take a few tries to get right. They challenge the brains of my higher level, faster working students. Tiling puzzles like this Multiplication Tiling Puzzle are great for an “I’m Done Box”. Since students can only use each number tile once, they are really challenged to use their critical thinking skills and the properties of multiplication in order to solve the puzzle.
