I am always looking for new ways to reach all of my students during math lessons. There are always a couple of students who learn differently. One strategy I began using a few years ago, is incorporating literacy into my math lessons. I know it sounds very weird, but children remember concepts that they learn through stories. An excellent source for math stories is Cindy Neuschwander’s Sir Cumference series. She does a great job of telling a story, while explaining complex math concepts for children. I’ve used her series for several years now, and find it to be a great resource. I created this Free Lesson For “Sir Cumference and The First Round Table”. This lesson helps students put the concepts they learn about in the story to immediate use.
