When I study units with my class, I always try to come up with creative ways for students to share what they have learned. During black history month, I give each student a piece of scrap booking paper so that they can create a quilt square about a person, or theme from black history. We then put all of the quilt squares together on large pieces of fabric. The results are truly beautiful. Most years I end up with two freedom quilts. I combined my parent letter with directions, grading rubric, and other tips into this free Freedom Quilt unit.
