Henry and Mudge QR Codes and Poke Cards

PK-2

Our first reading unit in my classroom focuses on Henry and Mudge The First Book.   My second graders love the tales of Henry and big, slobbery Mudge.  Henry and Mudge books have wonderful story lines and are excellent avenues for students to make connections to their experiences.  As a complement to our Henry and Mudge reading unit, I created a poke card and QR code center for my students.  This product can also be used a fantastic resource for guided reading groups.
When I set up the center, I include a classroom iPad.  Of course, as part of our classroom expectations and procedures I talk with the students about using the iPad in a center.  Often times centers in my classroom are mobile and many students take them to their seats to work on.  Students enjoy using the iPad to check their answers with the QR code reader.

Henry and Mudge’s Dandy Dog Treats

You won’t want to miss Henry and Mudge’s dandy dog treats!  Check out my blog for pictures of our dandy dog treats.  We used nutter butter cookies, I know that some school/classrooms are peanut free.  Our school does not draw a hard line about peanuts/peanut butter or sweets in our classrooms.  Each time the students make these cute treats, it puts a smile on my face!

While observing and helping the students prepare their snacks, even at second grade level I find they need fine motor practice.  It is so wonderful for the students to have the opportunity to prepare their own snack.  Using a plastic knife to spread peanut butter really requires fine motor skills.  Adding the mini candy eyes also requires fine motor skills.  I’m sure your students will enjoy the dandy dog treats as much as my students do!
