Get Up and Learn! Mastering Sight Words

All Freebies· PK-2

Looking for a way to make mastering sight words exciting, fun, and interactive for your kiddos?

I’ve got just what you need!  I’ve created these interactive PowerPoint “Get Up and Learn” series of digital flashcards to practice mastering sight words at any time!

Mastering Sight Words

I like to use them is as part of a transition, so when  several students are still finishing up an assignment,  I put on the Get Up and Learn Sight Words PowerPoint to being practicing sight words.

What exactly are “Get Up and Learn” PowerPoint digital flashcards?  Digital flashcards are cards that cycle through a PowerPoint or video set to music that you project onto a SMARTBoard, a screen, or use on a computer for center work.  Children will read along with the words.  The best part is every so often a movement brain  break card pops up, which allows the children to get up and move!

Use these digital flashcards in two ways.  Use the video I created from the timed PowerPoint that is set to music.  Words flash on the screen for the children to read.  Then a movement brain break card pops up.  It stays on the screen longer than the sight word, giving children time to perform the exercise.

Then a refocusing “Ready?  Look!” card comes on the screen, giving the children time to refocus and read the next set of sight words.  The process continues until the children read all the sight words.

Alternatively, use the timed PowerPoint set as a slideshow from the beginning.  Using the PowerPoint allows you to mix up the words, but the PowerPoint is not set to music. Because the children get to get up and move in between words, they love using these digital flashcards.

Watch a short video clip here to see the program in action.

Finally, download your Forever Free Unit One of Get Up and Learn Sight words by clicking here.

Have a great day!

After graduating college, she moved to South Florida, where she taught kindergarten in the Palm Beach County School District for 8 years. She has been teaching in the parochial school system for 20 years now, first at kindergarten, and currently in a first grade classroom. Lesley has also taught 2nd and 3rd grade Spanish and 4th grade social studies. Wow-this is genius!! I love how this allows the kids who need some extra time to finish up while the others are engaged in meaningful transitions. This is incredible! Thank you!
