Free Ice Breaker Activities For Classroom Fun

3-5· All Freebies· PK-2

Classroom ice breakers are a great tool when heading back to school. The first days of school can be stressful for some children. They are worried about having a new teacher and being separated from their friends. Meeting new people and working together is not easy for everyone.

Do you have students that are nervous about finding partners and teams?

I remember being very nervous as a child whenever I was in a new situation. I would become very quiet and try to melt into the woodwork. Some of my own children also found new situations very stressful. For kids that are introverted, finding partners and forming groups or teams is very difficult. Teachers can help reduce their anxiety and push them out of their comfort zones. Classroom ice breakers can be very useful here.

Here are some ice breakers for forming groups and teams at the beginning of the year.

Most children like popsicles. These popsicles are a great tool for finding partners and forming groups. They can help to melt away the worries of most kids. They just find the matching number, color, or number word and they will be set to go. Even the quietest kids can do this because they have a popsicle piece in their hand.

Note: These popsicles can be used throughout the year for forming new groups, teams, or partnerships.
