Writing has many uses in the classroom, and across all subject areas, too. Moreover, writing is a great tool when it comes to holidays, because there’s something to be said for exploring your holiday traditions through writing and telling someone else about how your family celebrates a particular holiday. These free Thanksgiving writing prompts help your students become storytellers, and they help them improve their paragraph writing skills!
There are six writing prompts included in this free download. The writing prompts cover opinion, informative, and narrative writing, and each page is laid out to help students find success with their writing. The pages include the prompt, a checklist of steps to complete the writing process, a reminder about the type of writing, and space to brainstorm their paragraph.
These pages are inspired by my I Heart Paragraph Writing series, but they’re obviously specific to the Thanksgiving holiday. The different topics encourage your students to write about either their own family’s holiday traditions and memories or about the history of the holiday. The pages are eye-catching and engaging to students, which makes them more motivated to write!
If you wanted, you could even allow students to color the page in instances of finishing early or if they need a brain break. If you keep writing portfolios for your students throughout the year, these prompt and brainstorming pages, accompanied by the completed paragraph, would make excellent additions to the portfolios to show how students’ writing improved throughout the school year.

Thanks for reading, and I hope you have a happy Thanksgiving break!
