How do you help your students develop fine motor skills? There are so many ways we can help young kids develop their pre-writing and essential skills. Proper fine motor skills mean better letter formation, scissor cutting, precision and control. These are essential steps to maximise their early learning retention.
These cards are not only colourful, bright and fun — they are dinosaur cards! Kids love to learn about dinosaurs and these cards come in black, white, purple, red, green, and yellow. You will need these tools to setup these cards:
- laminator
- scissors
- hole puncher
- coloured pipe cleaners
Once you’ve laminated your set, cut them apart and place them in a zip lock bag along with matching pipe cleaners. The kids will then choose a card, identify the colour of the dinosaur then use pipe cleaners to thread them into the holes on each dinosaur card’s back.
This will be a little tricky for younger learners aged 2, but they will soon get the hang of it. It works best with kids aged 3 and over.
DO you have any kindergarten skills who are working on their pre-writing skills and need the extra help? Have them do these threading activities – it will help them gain and develop fine motor control in a fun and hands-on way!
