ESL Language Assessment and Guide

This assessment covers all the key areas of language learning. Each section gives you very specific, practical data on how a student is doing in each language domain. Here are the different sections of the assessment:

  1. Speaking & Listening
  2. Vocabulary
  3. Phonics
  4. Reading
  5. Grammar
  6. Writing & Spelling

Some students are great at speaking but struggle with reading. Some students are great at reading and writing, but can’t speak or understand very well. This assessment will help you get a solid understanding of the areas your students need to focus in on most.

You can use this assessment to help you in a few different ways:

  1. Assess the English abilities of a newcomer who has just arrived.
  2. Monitor the progress students have made.
  3. Decide which materials you should be using with your students.

When students first arrive, you need to get a clear picture of what they know and what they don’t know. That way you can get them working on the things that will make the biggest difference in the student’s education.

You can also use the assessment again after a period of time to see how the student is progressing.

If you are wondering which materials would be best for a particular student, this assessment will help you decide.

I developed this assessment over the course of a decade testing hundreds of incoming students.

It has also proven a valuable resource to the 1000s of teachers who have downloaded and started using it.
