Does your class need some motivation to get them through next week? Considering it is so close to Halloween I am on the lookout for fun activities to help keep them engaged. I had my first graders review with this super fun addition and subtraction escape room STEM challenge freebie. It focuses on numbers within 20 and has them reviewing number bonds, number lines, word problems, counting on and more!
First we read the problem which really got them excited!
Next, they had to complete all of the clue cards and write the answer on their clue check off page. I had to check off each box before they got to move on to the STEM challenge. You could always have them complete all clues and you check them off all at once if that is easier for you. There is a black and white version so that students can play individually. There is also a color version if you want to print a few copies and have them play in groups.
Once they get get all of their boxes checked off they get to start on the STEM challenge. There challenge was to create a pumpkin patch marble maze. The students had to mark a start and finish and draw the path their marble would travel. They even used pumpkin shaped candy for obstacles. If they completed this challenge they escaped the pumpkin patch and got a completion badge!
The kids LOVED this and it was such a fun treat and reward for them. Some students struggled with having a marble roll exactly on the path they designed so some students substituted the marble for a craft pom. The craft pom rolled a little slower giving them more control of where it goes in order for them to succeed. If you think your class would enjoy this addition and subtraction escape room STEM challenge freebie, then check it out in my TPT shop!
