At the beginning of the year, I love to have a fresh look in my classroom. It can be a complete theme, or maybe just something different that brightens up the room. Student desk name plates are one of my go to items. I used to buy them each year, but then I started to create my own.
Just like we want new and fresh things, it is important to have something fresh and interesting for the children. It gives us a new outlook and energy to start new things. It makes them feel important and special. This goes a long way in developing a positive classroom environment. Try using color, special student desk name plates and other classroom decor.
WHY IS IT IMPORTANT TO HAVE MORE THAN A NAME ON THE STUDENT DESK NAME PLATE?
Names are the main focus of the name plates, but desk name plates should have other important information on them too. They then become a tool that children can refer to when needed, especially if the teacher is busy and unable to give specific help at that moment.
WHAT SHOULD A PERSONALIZED NAME PLATE HAVE ON IT?
Deciding what to put on a name plate can sometimes be difficult. You want to have some information on it, but if you put too much information, it is difficult to see and then it becomes less useful. I think a place for the name should be the main component, and then the specific additions are up to the person creating the name plate or the teacher wanting to use it.
For primary students, I found that having the alphabet, a number line, the shapes, and maybe a hundred chart works best.
I created a rainbow themed back to school kit and these student desk name plates are part of the kit. Being retired, I now tutor French and I help out in French Immersion classrooms. I also create primary materials in French as well as English. I created a French version of my rainbow themed kit and adjusted the material to correspond with the French language.
Grab your free student desk name plates here. Both the English and French name plates are included in the same product. Choose the one that works for you.
