Hello from tropical Alaska! It’s Jaime from The First Grade Bloom!
If you’re like me, you get catalogs in your school mailbox that advertise lots of wonderful things that would make your classroom look fantastic and serve a purpose at the same time.
But then you look at the price and toss the catalog into the recycling bin.
So then you start thinking of ways you could make the things you’ve seen.
That’s where PVC pipes come in.
How do you make a canopy with pvc pipe?
PVC pipes are kind of like LEGOs. They come in many different shapes and sizes and can be put together to create some cool things.
And they can also be taken apart and used all over again.
One morning before school, I went into Home Depot on a mission.
I was bound and determined to build myself a little stage for our Readers’ Theater plays that we had invited our parents to come see.
I played around in the plumbing aisle for an hour, putting pieces together until I had what I wanted: a collapsable and storable stage.

I’ve added more pipes to make it wider. You can really make some cool stuff out of pvc! I store all my pipes in a big heavy duty plastic tote so I can keep them hidden in my closet.
What are some other things to make with pvc pipes?
Then, recently I was trying to think of a way to keep my listening center headphones (the ones with the long curly cords) all nice and neat.
I decided to make something out of the PVP pipes I had in my closet and came up with this:

I must say, it was a pretty great idea for a DIY pvc pipe stand if I say so myself! DIY projects are the best when you make something cute AND useful for your classroom!

Here are some more neat ideas for using PVC pipes in your classroom:
READING PHONES

I draw a red circle around one end of it to indicate which end goes next to your mouth. It is super helpful for a visual for students.

CHART STAND
Those chart stands from the school supply catalogs are astronomical! This is definitely a money saver version and works perfectly.

READING NOOK

I mean, seriously – how adorable and easy is that? I love that you can move it easily and take it apart to store it if needed. Flexibility in classroom layout is huge when you have a smaller classroom layout.
SENSORY TABLE

OH YEAH! Plastic pvc pipes are amazing for a water table! No rusty spots or sharp edges to worry about!
PVC Pipe Desk Organizer: Keeping Your Classroom Supplies Neat and Tidy
In addition to serving as a bookshelf, PVC pipes can be utilized to create desk organizers, promoting a clutter-free and organized workspace for both teachers and students. By cutting the pipes into various lengths and attaching them to a base, you can design a functional desk organizer to store pens, pencils, markers, scissors, and other essential supplies. This innovative approach to desk organization not only keeps classroom supplies easily accessible but also promotes a tidy and efficient learning environment.
Moreover, PVC pipe desk organizers can be customized to accommodate different desk sizes and storage needs. Teachers can create individual organizers for each student’s desk or design larger organizers to store communal supplies in designated areas of the classroom. By incorporating this creative solution into your classroom decor, you can instill a sense of order and responsibility among students while enhancing the overall aesthetic appeal of the learning space.
PVC Pipe Art Display: Showcasing Kids’ Creativity in the Classroom
PVC pipes offer a versatile and cost-effective way to showcase students’ artwork in the classroom. By cutting the pipes into varying lengths and arranging them in an artistic configuration on the wall, you can create an eye-catching display for children’s drawings, paintings, or other creative projects. This innovative approach not only celebrates students’ artistic achievements but also transforms the classroom into an inspiring gallery that reflects their individuality and imagination.
Furthermore, the PVC pipe art display provides a flexible and dynamic platform for showcasing ongoing student work throughout the school year. Teachers can easily rearrange the pipes to accommodate new artwork, allowing for a continuously evolving and interactive display that engages both students and visitors. By incorporating this creative element into your classroom decor, you can foster a sense of pride and accomplishment among students while creating a visually stimulating environment that celebrates their creativity.
PVC Pipe Coat Rack: A Fun and Functional Addition to Your Classroom Decor
PVC pipes can be repurposed into a playful and functional coat rack for your classroom, providing a practical solution for organizing students’ outerwear while adding a touch of whimsy to the learning environment. By assembling the pipes into a sturdy frame with hooks, you can create a durable coat rack that accommodates multiple jackets, backpacks, and accessories. This innovative addition not only promotes tidiness and order but also encourages students to take responsibility for their belongings in a fun and engaging way.
Moreover, the PVC pipe coat rack can be customized to reflect the unique personality of your classroom. By painting the pipes in bright colors or incorporating playful designs, you can infuse the coat rack with creativity and character, transforming it into a focal point of your classroom decor. This inventive approach not only provides a practical storage solution but also enhances the overall aesthetic appeal of the learning space, creating an inviting and organized atmosphere for students to thrive.
PVC Pipe Cubbies: Organizing Kids’ Belongings in the Classroom
PVC pipes can be utilized to create individual cubbies for students to store their belongings, promoting organization and personal responsibility within the classroom. By assembling the pipes into cubby units with designated compartments, you can provide each student with a dedicated space to keep their backpacks, books, and personal items. This innovative storage solution not only fosters independence and accountability but also helps maintain a tidy and orderly learning environment.
Furthermore, PVC pipe cubbies can be personalized to accommodate different classroom layouts and storage needs. Teachers can configure the cubbies to fit along walls or create freestanding units to divide classroom spaces effectively. By incorporating this creative organizational element into your classroom decor, you can empower students to take ownership of their personal space while promoting a sense of community and respect for shared resources within the learning environment.
