Fluency and a Freebie

Studies indicate that fluency is directly related to comprehension.  Of course, comprehension is the most important part of reading, so it clearly means we need to help our students become fluent.  How do we do that?  With guided practice, of course!  Students need to know their letter sounds as well as the letters or letter patterns that go with them.  Here I have a freebie for practicing words with the short a and long a sounds.  There’s a page to practice nonsense words to give the child practice becoming automatic on the “sounding out” step of reading.  There’s also a page of one syllable words with short and long a sound patterns.  Click HERE to download  your freebie and learn more about fluency.
