Short and Sweet Story Summaries

All Freebies

Using familiar children’s stories, students apply listening, comprehension, and summarizing skills in this fun freebie that can be used as a pre-assessment or post-assessment.
Students imagine that they are writing program descriptions about children’s stories-turned-TV shows on a children’s television network. First, they listen to a short children’s story read aloud. Next, they summarize the story in one interesting sentence to attract potential viewers.
The activity includes suggested uses, online sources for children’s stories, summaries handouts, and answer key with possible answers.
Have fun!
