Graphic note-taking, or visual note-taking, is the creative practice of using visual language to represent information. Compared to regular notes, it is a more engaging, effective, and exciting method of soaking up knowledge. When students create visual notes, they stimulate their creativity, enhance the depth of learning, and facilitate a holistic understanding of the lessons.
Why choose graphic note-taking?
One of the things I love about doodle notes (yes, there are about a million names for them) is that graphic note-taking fosters deeper processing of information. Multiple research studies have shown that when students draw or visually represent the information they are learning, it also leads to better comprehension and retention. The brain is naturally wired to process visual information more efficiently than text, making graphic note-taking a potent tool for improving academic performance.
Visual Notetaking works for everyone!
I have discovered that graphic notetaking works for all students. I have used graphic notes from first grade to eighth grade. The first time I tried this form of notetaking, I used it with a main idea lesson, but they really do work for all the different subject areas too.
