Word of the day for kids Google Site

3-5· PK-2

Vocabulary knowledge is a major factor in students’ development of reading comprehension. Here is a free online app that makes the learning of vocabulary fun.

It is powered by the Word of the Day for Kids channel and The Fully Illustrated Dictionary of English channel on YouTube. All videos are embedded so that they are the only ones students see. There are 180 words plus a bonus word each day for a total of 360 words. The words are all Tier 2 vocabulary. In each video, the word and written definition are shown and spoken. Then segments from popular kid-friendly movies, shows, news reports, or documentaries provide samples of the word’s usage in a clear, complete, vivid context. Synonym, reading comprehension, and writing activities are also included. Give it a try and you will see “A picture is better than 1000 words.” The free “Word of the Day for Kids” app is a Google Site available online here.
