⭐ FREE 5-Minute Sensory Break Menu

3-5· All Freebies

(Black & White Printable for Teachers)

Hi CF family! My first post!

After recently receiving a late diagnosis of Autism, I’ve not only been wrapping my brain around my own sensory questions, but I’ve also been looking backwards to think of what I would have benefited from at an early age.

I’m a longtime curriculum creator and designer, and it seemed a pretty easy next step to take those superpowers into the realm of the neurodivergent!

So this is my first freebie in my new TPT section, “Autistic and Neurodivergent Learners”!

If you work with any students who benefit from quick regulation breaks, you know how valuable a simple, visual sensory menu can be. I made something similar for my own kiddo several years ago, so it was fun to recreate and reimagine the product for a larger audience.

Perfect for neurodivergent learners, calm corners, classroom transitions, and behavior support plans!

If you work with any students who benefit from quick regulation breaks, you know how valuable a simple, visual sensory menu can be. I made something similar for my own kiddo several years ago, so it was fun to recreate and reimagine the product for a larger audience.

Today, I’m excited to share my FREE 5-Minute Sensory Break Menu on Classroom Freebies, which you can download instantly and use in your classroom, counseling sessions, OT sessions, or home learning space.

🎯 Who Is This Free Printable For?

This sensory menu is ideal for:

  • Autistic students
  • ADHD students
  • Students with sensory processing needs
  • Neurodivergent learners
  • Students with IEPs or behavior plans
  • General education classrooms that use brain breaks
  • Calm corners, peace corners, and reset spaces
  • Counselors, OTs, SPED teachers, SEL coaches, and paraprofessionals

If your students ever need just a few minutes to self-regulate and reset, this tool will fit seamlessly into your day.

💡 Why Sensory Break Menus Work

Many students struggle with:

  • Sensory overload
  • Transitions
  • Emotional regulation
  • Executive functioning challenges
  • Sitting still for long periods
  • Anxiety or overwhelm

A visual sensory menu helps because it:

  • Provides predictable choices
  • Reduces decision-making stress
  • Gives students autonomy
  • Helps them communicate their needs
  • Supports self-regulation
  • Minimizes behavior escalations

Short breaks = big impact on focus, behavior, and emotional well-being.

📚 How to Use This Sensory Menu in Your Classroom

Here are a few simple, teacher-tested ways to implement it:

✔️ 1. Add it to your calm corner

Place it in a space where students go to reset. You can post it on a clipboard, wall, or inside a binder.

✔️ 2. Use it during transitions

Offer 5-minute sensory break choices between activities—especially for students who struggle with change.

✔️ 3. Pair it with a timer

A visual timer (or 5-minute sand timer) helps keep the break predictable and structured.

✔️ 4. Add it to an IEP, BIP, or student support plan

This works beautifully as a “break choice board” for behavior intervention plans.

✔️ 5. Make it a quick check-in tool

Have students circle or point to what they need before returning to instruction.

This printable makes sensory breaks easy, fast, and accessible for everyone.

🖤 Why a Black & White Printable?

Teachers love black & white resources because they:

  • Save ink
  • Print cleanly on any printer
  • Work well for low-stim classrooms
  • Offer less visual clutter
  • Can be colored in by students
  • Look crisp when laminated

It’s a simple design with a big impact!

I’m excited to share my FREE 5-Minute Sensory Break Menu that you can download instantly and use in your classroom, counseling sessions, OT sessions, or home learning space.
