Christmas Around the World Printables: A Teacher’s Guide to Global Celebrations

3-5· All Freebies

Christmas Around the World Printables have become one of my most-loved December teaching tools — not because they’re flashy or over-the-top, but because they create calm, meaningful learning during the busiest month of the school year. When everything feels loud and rushed, these printables helped my classroom slow down, travel the globe, and genuinely connect with how different cultures celebrate Christmas.

And honestly? The kids learn so much more when the learning feels like a journey.

✏️ Note: The full list of activities and printables mentioned in this post (with direct links to the resources) can be found in the original article on Teach2Tell.com.

Why Christmas Around the World Activities for 5th Grade Matter

🌍 Christmas Around the World Printables That Actually Teach (Not Just Entertain)

Instead of surface-level worksheets, I wanted my students to move, read, discuss, and connect. Using the Christmas Around the World Printables, we turned our classroom into a global exploration station — each corner of the room representing a different country’s Christmas traditions.

The printables allowed students to investigate how Christmas is celebrated in:

  • Australia

  • Brazil

  • Canada

  • England

  • France

  • Germany

  • Italy

  • Mexico

  • The Netherlands

  • Russia

  • Spain

  • Sweden

  • United States

Rather than rushing through countries, we spent time comparing food, symbols, customs, greetings, and unique traditions — and those moments led to the best conversations.

🎄 What Worked Beautifully in My Classroom

The Scavenger Hunt Format was Gold.
Students moved around the room collecting facts, answering questions, and piecing together information like mini researchers. It felt purposeful, not chaotic.

Flipbooks Made Learning Stick.
Students documented what they found — flags, festive foods, population facts, customs, and symbols. This became a keepsake they proudly shared with parents.

How Christmas Around the World Activities for 5th Grade Support Research Skills

Boom Digital Cards helped my diverse learners.
With audio options and self-checking questions, students who needed extra support felt confident joining in.

What surprised me most? How naturally students began comparing countries:
“Wait… they celebrate on Christmas Eve? Why?”
“They don’t have Santa? Who brings the gifts?”

That’s when I knew the activity wasn’t just seasonal — it was meaningful.

❄️ What Didn’t Work (And What I Adjusted)

I first tried doing all 13 countries in one week. Big mistake.
Information overload = glazed eyes.

Instead, we slowed down and explored 2–3 countries per week, allowing:

  • time to reflect

  • meaningful discussion

  • opportunities to compare cultures

This pacing turned the experience from rushed to rich.

Structuring Christmas Around the World Activities for 5th Grade in December

✈️ How I Structure It Now

Here’s the flow that worked best:

  1. Introduce the country with visuals & flag

  2. Use scavenger hunt cards for guided discovery

  3. Record facts in flipbooks

  4. Write short informative pieces

  5. Group share & cultural comparison

Students weren’t just learning about Christmas — they were learning empathy, geography, and cultural awareness.

Why Christmas Around the World Printables Belong in Your December Plan

These are not “busy work” sheets. They are:

  • thoughtfully structured

  • culturally respectful

  • engaging without overwhelming

  • aligned with reading & informational text goals

And the biggest win?
Students remember what they learn.

Even weeks later, they’ll still tell you about Sinterklaas, festive meals in Italy, or snowy traditions in Sweden.
