Remember those old “Choose Your Own Adventure” books where you would read a couple pages, then depending on which decision you made, you turned to a different page to continue the story? I loved those as a kid. So perhaps your students would love this activity, as well! (Download link below)
I had mine create theirs using Keynote (Mac’s version of Powerpoint) and then they shared them with their classmates. They loved reading each adventure and making the choices.
My free download has several pages on how to make your own “Choose your own adventure” story, using the online sensation The Potter Games as an example. I had the pleasure of being one of the writers & editors for this mash-up between Harry Potter and The Hunger Games this summer. It was so much fun!
You can skip the first few pages if you are using this with younger students; I had sophomores and seniors do the full exercise, playing The Potter Games then writing their own. Some of the special-ed students struggled a little, but they still enjoyed it.
This is a great way to have them write a little at a time and in a completely new way! Hope you enjoy it!
