Guided Reading Prompt Cards

All Freebies

Hi! I’m Shelley Gray from Teaching in the Early Years and I would love to share one of my most popular freebies with you! These Guided Reading Prompt Cards were initially created for use in guided reading groups. I like to have students choose a card during reading and answer the question. For example, the cards might ask students to identify the setting of the story, create a math problem using ideas from the story, or describe the main character.

Although the initial intent was for during guided reading, I have had many people tell me that they use the cards during Daily 5 “Read to Someone.” I have also had people describe adaptations that they have made, such as labeling the back of each card with either a “B,” “D” or “A” to represent “Before,” “During” and “After” so that cards can be chosen based on where you are in the book.
To download and print these prompt cards, simply click on the image below. Be sure to comment below to tell me about how you have adapted and used these cards in your classroom!

Thanks so much for visiting. Have a great day!

Just saw this on Pinterest. Looks really interesting. I made a little reading aid for dyslexia. I will check your site out today. Thanks.
