Don’t you just love it when kids add dialogue to their stories but don’t know how to use quotation marks properly? Their stories become one long confusing string of “he said” and “she said.” They completely lose the reader and their stories fall flat.
What if kids had to have a license before they could use dialogue in their stories? After you teach a few mini lessons on the proper use of quotation marks, give a short quiz. Students who pass are given this dialogue license and may now use limited amounts of dialogue in their stories! You can download this freebie here by clicking on the image above. You can also find it on my Language Arts page on Teaching Resources along with lots of other free resources for teachers.
