If you’re like me, you have students that might not always finish their classwork, in class. Because I have students at various levels, I often hope for just ten more minutes of class time to really work with those that may need a second more of my instruction. However, as you know, our day doesn’t always allow for an extra ten minutes.
I started sending home some of my student’s math journals each day if I found that during guided and independent practice that they were struggling a bit. My math block is 70 minutes, so it’s not like I’m not covering the material or getting to each of my groups… I just felt the need to let parents know, daily, what specific skills their child could use support on. I firmly believe this is the model homework should be… to reinforce skills – never to introduce new concepts. Additionally, I believe homework should be purposeful – never busy work. This serves as my ‘out of the box’ Tier 2 or Tier 3 for those that don’t have build in support services within their buildings… Hopefully this may help you, too. So, I wanted to share this simple yet powerful little Freebie.
I hope that you also take a minute to stop by my blog, Kleinspiration, to see other goodies.
