To continue my moonlighting week, I hopped down to first to work with mini-scholars on discriminating between the long vowel a sound and the short vowel a sound.
Since eight of my nine ESOL first graders are boys, I created a race track sort. AND race has a long a and track has a short a. The kiddos had to sort the race cars and put them either on the long-a track or the short-a track.
