Hundreds Chart and Number Sense

All Freebies

One of my kindergarten teachers and I were talking about activities for the hundreds chart.  I have felt that we haven’t been utilizing the hundreds chart as much as we should.  There are so many ways you can use the chart to help build number sense.  I especially like making addition and subtraction, with large numbers in particular, more concrete.  It also is a great way to build their place value understanding.  They see as they move up or down the tens place changes whereas when they move left and right the ones place changes.

A little while back I created these hundreds chart puzzles.  There are 20 different puzzles and they range in complexity.

This weekend I created a new unit that also the hundreds chart and also uses number lines.  Students need continued practice really build their number sense with the hundreds chart.
