If you are in school tomorrow, take a moment to honor Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s legacy with a thought-provoking writing prompt. You can also save this as an activity for Black History Month in February.
I’ve used this prompt as a journal entry (it’s from my “A Year of Journal Writing Prompts”) and also as a discussion starter during various novel and literature units. It would be appropriate for many connections to literature such as A Separate Peace, The Hunger Games, To Kill a Mockingbird, The Outsiders, The Tragedy of Julius Caesar, The Knife of Never Letting Go, I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings, and anything that has violence and/or war thematic connections.
