To help my Y5’s learn to identify coins, I do a lot of money activities during February. Since a variety of presidents are on our money, these fit in well with our President’s Day theme too.
Students cut and glue the matching clip art coins to the cover of this coin craftivity. They cut on the lines to make
flaps. When you “flip a flap” information about that coin is revealed.
Children write down the name of the coin, the color, the value, what President is
on the coin and how many tally marks it takes to make the value of the
coin.
Teachers can take it a step farther and have students make
crayon or pencil rubs of the various coins, cut out their best efforts and glue
them under the top portion of the flap that matches the appropriate coin.
