Earth Day is April 22nd. I think it’s important to do something that day to let students know that even children can pitch in and make a difference.
This “I can lend a helping hand” Earth Day writing prompt craftivity, is quick, easy and fun. Children pick a partner, and take turns tracing each other’s hands, with a bit of arm showing. They trim, decorate and glue it to a sheet of brightly colored construction paper.
For extra pizzazz give them some self-adhesive, flat-backed jewels to spiff up their “jewelry”. Even my boys enjoyed adding “tattoos” and other finishing touches.
I’ve included a writing prompt for older students to complete. This can be glued to the back, or attached to the bottom of the poster. Completed projects look great suspended from the ceiling or scattered on a bulletin board or wall.
The blog article explains how I take 15-minutes to clean up our playground with my Y5s. They absolutely LOVE this. Afterwards, I give them this certificate to color, which is also in the packet.
