Although I am teaching in the gifted program this year, I still have a range of math abilities. Yes, I have fifth graders who understand trigonometry, but some of my students missed a year of the adopted curriculum when they transferred into the program.
We just completed a unit on adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing fractions and decimals. After giving a pretest, I had the students analyze what they still needed to learn and pulled skill groups based on what skill they had missed.
I adapted the place value chart above by putting it on a standard sized copy paper. I put them in plastic covers for a reusable place value mat. I used them for reteaching and students used them for practice.
