Howdy! Jen Bradshaw here from Teacher KARMA.
So, what do the other kids do while you are actively doing your guided reading groups?
My first answer to this question is usually read, read, and then read some more. Ha!!
But, students also need to practice skills… like phonics… especially if they are beginning or struggling readers like I know we all have.
Some teachers spend two or three hours a day doing guided reading groups, so your students will need additional PURPOSEFUL tasks. If your students need additional practice with word families, then this free activity might just be a good fit for your classroom.
Teaching students how to actively use word family knowledge and decoding is a reading strategy that will help students to read unknown words.
Keep those kids occupied and working hard!!
This FREE “Shake-A-Word” hands-on phonics game will be just perfect for keeping the “other kids” busy while you work with your small group and guided reading groups.
