Oh slime, how I loathe you. But, what kid doesn’t love slime, am I right? It’s one of the hottest things right now and if you were to do a quick internet search, you’d discover a jazillion different recipes for slime. Okay, so maybe I’m (barely) exaggerating, but you get my point. And if you were to combine slime with science centers… well, you just get slime centers. 🙂
Being a teacher that demands engagement, I just had to find a way to take advantage of this slimy craze. But I wanted more than just exploring non-newtonian fluids and states of matter (and I’ve done states of matter before). Yes, I wanted as much science as I could cram in! I brainstormed until my head started hurting. Then, I kindly asked my five year old to stop bopping me in the head with her not-so-soft foam bat (I can thank daddy for that) and got down to it!
I created slime centers; Centers because I lack time.
I covered a variety of topics from the basics – observation skills to the stretch test.
Heck, I even had my kiddos do a sink test (formally known as the poke test). Except, in my sink test – they use different sized weights and watch them sink! I even mingled in some magnetism, some force of gravity, light, and electricity. OH YEAH!
Now, I know this is a freebie site so I imagine you are reading and wondering when am I going to get to the good stuff right (like what I was saying wasn’t good or something! ha!).
On my website, The Owl Teacher, you can read all about the various slime centers that I created, how they work, and even grab a freebie so you can conduct two of them yourself! Whomp! How awesome is that!?!
So head on over to my blog post Slime Science Centers on The Owl Teacher and download your freebie!
Your slime-y science buddy… wait, that sounds creepy…
