Do you want to change your teaching style a bit?
It’s fun to change things up a bit every now and then. I love the structure of my balanced literacy classroom. Sometimes keeping the rhythm and flow of my daily mini-lesson can be a bit stressful. This time of year, I tend to have a lot of personal commitments after school which limits my planning time. For more time saving curriculum this time of year, click here. Common Core PowerPoints to the rescue! I created PowerPoints and Google Slides to help me keep my teaching fresh even when my planning time is at a minimum. The best part? My students LOVE them!
I use the Common Core reading skills to guide my minilessons. Each PowerPoint focuses on the skill I’m teaching. The PowerPoints allow my class to go at our own pace, and still allow for teachable moments. That being said, after the teachable moment has passed, they keep me focused on the reading skill at hand. Here is a sample PowerPoint slide:
How do I fit them into my daily schedule?
The PowerPoint takes the place of your daily mini-lesson. In fact, the PowerPoint is your daily mini-lesson. The structure is already built in for you.
This free PowerPoint lesson on RL 2.1 Asking and Answering Questions is a good example of what my daily lessons are like. Enjoy!
