“Big” – writers of all ages use it a lot. We do it too. A lot. It’s a big ol’ pain.
So, we came up with a solution to this big immense problem: A word search puzzle that will help expand students’ use of alternatives to simple, overplayed, words. It’s a combination word search puzzle and synonym/antonym worksheet – perfect for morning warm-ups, bellringers, or for early finishers. Use this puzzle to help your students go beyond “big” – it will really make them think! Plus, there’s a “punny” riddle to solve with the leftover letters in the word search grid. There’s a clue to this pun in the graphics used as well!
How Do You Use This Word Search Puzzle?
It’s easy! Everything is ready to print and go! There’s a word search puzzle with a word bank. Students find the words listed in the word bank. When they are done, the letters that remain in the word search grid will make up the answer to the riddle.
We have a larger resource that also has blank word banks so students who need more of a challenge will also be engaged and having fun. The larger resource is linked from within the freebie document and contains more words and more difficult puzzles, and it’s Common Core aligned.
Why We Handmake Our Puzzles
We make each puzzle by hand. Always. We never use an automatic word search maker because word search puzzles are better when they are handmade — more challenging, better layout of hidden words, and in general quality. We have been making word search puzzles and activities this way for a long time and we feel it really shows in the final product. Handmade is best because we value your time as teachers.
We hope you enjoy this freebie word search puzzle!
