We use ABC order when we are scrolling through the contacts on our phone, filing a paper in the filing cabinet, looking for a book at the library, etc.

Teaching Alphabetical Order

When you are teaching alphabetical order, make sure to start by showing your students how to alphabetize with the first letter of the word.

Once your students have mastered it with the first letter, move on to alphabetizing the second, third, and then the fourth letter of the word.

Keep it Slow at First

Don’t move too quickly though, if your students don’t have a good grasp on alphabetizing by the first letter, the will struggle with using the second letter, etc.
