Thanksgiving Gratitude Quote – Perfect for Elementary and Middle School Kids

3-5· 6-8

Gratitude! It is something we all look to practice a bit more in our lives, so we are offering this fun, free Thanksgiving freebie! Perfect to fill in time at the end of a language arts lesson pack, or to soak up a few extra minutes of class time before and after the Thanksgiving holiday.

Want your kids to consider the idea of gratitude while they work their brains? I think we have just the right thing for you! We created this Thanksgiving activity for elementary and middle school students and are offering it here, on Classroom Freebies. This freebie takes a quote on gratitude from President John F. Kennedy and scrambles it. The quote is powerful and perfect for the holiday season.

A powerful quote from President John F. Kennedy on gratitude is the basis for this fun freebie!

Print and Go – No-Prep!

Everything is ready to print and go! It’s no-prep! Here’s how it works:

President John F. Kennedy once said,

As we express our gratitude, we must never forget that the highest appreciation is not to utter words, but to live by them.

The words in this quote have been scrambled, and your students will be challenged to solve the puzzle by arranging the words into the correct order, reconstructing the quote. Here’s the worksheet, with space below to work on:

It can also be projected and worked on in groups! Or, you can print out the little slips of torn “paper”, laminate them, and use them over and over as re-usable activity! We are also working on a drag-and-drop version — be sure to sign up for our free puzzle club, you will be the first to get the digital version for free!

An answer key is provided with the quote assembled as shown below. There’s also a fun fact about President John F. Kennedy – so it’s an easy way to augment a lesson. You could even use it for President’s Day or any time of the school year.

A fun fact is included with the answer, so it’s an easy way to extend a lesson on President’s Day, John F. Kennedy, or on the idea of gratitude.

We hope you enjoy this freebie on gratitude! It is with a grateful heart that we offer it to you and your students this Thanksgiving season.
