Free Christmas Nativity Story Retelling Activity
Many Christians around the world are celebrating the birth of Christ. The Christmas Nativity is at the center of many traditions and customs. Here is an interactive and fun craft activity that will help children to retell the events of that wonderful story. It is great to have activities that can tie into any book or version you are using. Children color, cut, and spin the wheel to reveal an event from the story. Here are three great ways to use the retelling wheel.
- Story Sequencing – Have the children spin the wheel to find the first event in the story. Then continue spinning the wheel in the correct direction to reveal the events in order. Have them turn the wheel back and forth to practice what comes before and after. This is a fun multisensory way to help kids understand this concept.
- Retelling – As each section of the story is revealed on the wheel, students can look at the illustration, read the sentence, and retell the events in their own words. Encourage them to add details that they remember as well as what happened before and after.
- Art Activity – Have students add details from the story to the illustrations as they color in the wheel. Provide additional embellishments such as glitter, stickers, beads, ribbon, etc… which can be added to the top wheel.
This activity is so much fun. Add it to Christmas lessons or use it at home and holiday parties. Add some decorations and it even makes a great gift!
