To to use picture books or chapter books for middle grade read aloud

Dedicate a time each day to read aloud a chapter book to the class.

Our favorite time was after recess as was a time to doodle, decompress, and just listen it drew our focus back to class and time to work.

Another idea to introduce books is to dedicate a day like “First Chapter Friday” and on Friday the teacher reads just the first chapter of a new book then back to regular read aloud.

It brings up student engagement and gets them excited for other books in your classroom library!

First Lines are such a powerful part of the book. You can grab FREE Book Quote Classroom library posters to decorate your library OR have students make some new ones from great books they read as well that are middle grade read alouds.
